It is generally not advisable to sleep with contact lenses. In fact, with closed eyes, the eyes are less hydrated. However, the lenses need tears, otherwise they stick to the eye which prevents it from being properly oxygenated. This asphyxiation of the cornea can cause irreparable injury to the cornea.
Under very specific circumstances and under medical supervision, some lenses can be adapted to wear them permanently, i.e. day and night. Regular visits to your eye doctor are therefore essential.
